Hungary is one of Koper’s established hinterland markets. The commercial comparison still has to finish at your warehouse, not at the quay.
Use the Adriatic connection, then price the inland reality
The Port of Koper describes Hungary as one of its high-market-share hinterland markets and a core part of its Visegrad gateway role. That makes Koper a sensible starting point for a Hungarian quotation, especially for western and central destinations. It does not make every Koper rate automatically best. The official port overview is evidence of the corridor; the live forwarder quote decides the shipment.
Compare route totals on the same delivery point
Ask each forwarder to price the same warehouse, the same container return assumption and the same unloading constraint. Hungarian buyers already recognise WPC teraszburkolat. The opportunity is not to introduce the category; it is to build a more coherent offer.
Start with the customer, not the container
Choose whether the first range is for dealer stock, residential projects, pool and wellness work, or commercial terraces. That decision controls the profile, cap construction, surface, colours, accessory pack and sample board. A mixed container without a range logic creates inventory rather than a market.
Sell a system, not an isolated deck board
A useful range pairs the composite deck boards with joists, clips, starter clips, fascia and a written installation detail. The complete system is easier for an installer to trust and harder for a buyer to compare only by the lowest board price.
Use the 70 m² minimum to test the proposition
One real terrace can validate colour response, installer feedback, packaging, documentation and the delivery route. The next order can then expand the stock range from evidence rather than guesswork.
What the Board Is Made Of, and What the Surface Does
The specification starts with the construction, not the colour name.
60% wood powder, 30% HDPE, 10% additives
On the capped range a co-extruded polymer shield wraps the WPC core. The shield is the wearing layer and carries the fade, stain and scratch resistance. Classic boards are uncapped, which lowers cost but changes the cleaning and weathering expectations.
Sections and textures are separate decisions
A complete specification names the range, profile, surface texture and colour. The full profile schedule is on the models page. Do not carry a span or metre weight from one section to another simply because the face width looks similar.
The gaps are working parts of the deck
Side and end gaps allow thermal movement and carry water off the face. They are not cosmetic tolerances. On exposed roof terraces or cold inland projects, blocked gaps turn rain and trapped water into standing water; on a long summer terrace, missing end gaps can turn expansion into buckling.

Judge the sample where the project will be built
Warm urban courtyards, shaded gardens and mountain hospitality sites do not read the same colour the same way. Put the physical sample outdoors at the project and compare it in sun and shade. Dark exterior surfaces absorb more heat, so a colour approved under showroom lighting can behave differently on a south-facing Czech terrace.
Order the whole visible area in one batch
Pigment is mixed into the extrusion run, so separate batches of the same named colour are not identical. Order one visible area together and keep spare boards from that batch. This matters on hotels and spa projects installed in stages.

A grey residential deck beside a house or garden needs a complete edge, drainage and fixing plan. Light and mid-grey boards also help a contemporary façade brief stay visually calm.
Pools and wellness projects
Pool surrounds put drainage, barefoot use and the exact slip-test method at the centre of the specification. The supporting frame and access for cleaning must be resolved before boards are ordered.
Integrated planters and seating
Planters, benches and level changes create attractive public and hospitality terraces, but they also create trapped-water and maintenance zones. Detail the removable boards and drainage path on the drawing.

Gaps and double joists
5–7 mm between adjacent board sides, about 5 mm at a wall, and 3–5 mm at butt joints are the catalogue starting points. Butt joints sit on double joists so each board end has its own support. Final spacing and support centres must match the exact profile and project conditions.
Accessories, with sizes
The system includes starter clips, plastic hidden clips, expansion screws, 50 × 50 × 3000 mm corner trim, 40 × 30 × 3000 mm WPC joist and 40 × 25 × 2900 mm aluminium joist. Fixings and exposed metals still need to suit winter de-icing salt, pool chemicals or other project-specific exposure.

Samples are free; you pay the courier and we credit it against the first order. Ask for the candidate colours together and request a sawn cross-section so the cap coverage and chamber geometry are visible.

Documents stay attached to the profile
Certificates and test reports name their scope. We provide the current file for the board being quoted and state any gap instead of moving a result from another profile. Where a tender needs a new method, testing can be discussed before production.

The Pannonian Plain Is Warm and Dry—Until Winter Tests Every Gap
Hungary combines warm summers, cold continental episodes and uneven rainfall. The board colour, movement gap and drainage detail need to work as one specification.
Summer surface temperature starts with colour
Hungary’s meteorological service describes much of the country as warm and dry, while oceanic, continental and Mediterranean influences all reach the basin. Summer daily temperature ranges are commonly substantial. On exposed decks, darker boards absorb more solar heat, so a physical colour sample and the end user’s barefoot expectations belong in the selection process. Winter movement still controls the ends
Cold continental air can dominate winter periods. Keep the side, wall and butt-joint gaps from the installation guide and put every butt joint on double joists. A warm installation day does not remove the need for the lower winter temperature in the movement calculation.
Variable rain makes drainage a construction detail
Hungarian annual precipitation varies significantly by place and year. That is an argument for a continuous fall, clear drainage path and accessible cleaning zones, not for trapping water beneath planters or at a sealed edge. Official precipitation overview.
Board Length Is a Stock Decision, Not Just Packing
Begin with the local cut plan
Hungarian retail listings show that buyers encounter several stock lengths. Do not copy a competitor’s length without mapping common terrace dimensions, vehicle limits, rack length and installer waste. A board that looks efficient in a container may create short offcuts on the customer’s plan.

Keep replacements inside the same batch
Order spare boards with the job. Pigment is compounded into the extrusion, so a later production run of the same named colour is not guaranteed to be visually identical.
Three Hungary-Specific Procurement Mistakes
Comparing the board-only price
A low board price can hide clips, joists, fascia, packing, sample freight and installer time. Compare one complete square metre of the chosen system, delivered to the same Hungarian point.
Setting gaps from one season
A deck installed in summer must still have room for the winter condition, and a cold installation must allow the board to move in the other direction. Use the written gap figures and the profile-specific support spacing.
Choosing the cheapest seaport before the inland quote
Hungary is landlocked. The useful comparison ends at the warehouse with terminal, rail or road, unloading and container return included. The sea line alone cannot settle the route.
EU Member, Non-Euro Market: Price the Currency Deliberately
Hungary participates in the EU single market but uses the Hungarian forint rather than the euro.

Capped co-extrusion carries a 15-year limited schedule and classic uncapped 10 years. The covered value reduces in bands over time; ask for the schedule rather than reading only the headline number.
It starts at the destination port
Cover runs from the date the goods arrive and are signed for at the destination port. Keep the arrival record, invoice and batch documentation together.
The batch documents matter
A claim is assessed against the product and schedule supplied with that batch. Photographs, installation layout, maintenance history and retained sample boards make the investigation faster.

Start with capped construction and compare physical colour samples. Darker surfaces generally absorb more solar heat, so colour, footwear or barefoot use, ventilation and shade all belong in the decision.
What gaps should installers use?
Our installation guide shows 5–7 mm between board sides, about 5 mm from a capped board to a wall and 3–5 mm at butt joints. Every butt joint sits on double joists so each board end has its own support.
Can the same board be used around pools and wellness areas?
